Advanced Elements PackLite
Four pounds and a packed size smaller than most carry-on bags. The most extreme product in this registry, and the most misunderstood.

- 4 lb hull, 7 lb complete system -- one of only two products in this registry that publishes a full system weight.
- 27 linear inches packed. The next smallest kayak here is 50.
- 2 psi side tubes and a 1 psi floor. That is very little structure.
- 250 lb capacity is the lowest in the registry.
Every specification on this boat is an outlier. Four pounds against a registry average nearer thirty. Eleven by eleven by five inches packed, which is 605 cubic inches -- about a large shoebox -- against a Sea Eagle SE370's 4,712. And a published complete-system weight of 7 lb, which almost nobody in this category publishes at all.
The temptation is to read those numbers as "best inflatable kayak". They are not. They are a very specific set of trade-offs that make this the right boat for a narrow set of trips and the wrong boat for most of them.
What four pounds actually means
It means fabric-reinforced polyurethane over a PVC-free polyester ripstop rather than the PVC tarpaulin on almost everything else here. Polyurethane is dramatically lighter for a given tensile strength and considerably less abrasion-tolerant, which is a straightforward trade rather than a compromise.
It also means low pressure. Two psi in the side tubes and one in the floor is the bottom end of what this registry runs, and pressure is where an inflatable's rigidity comes from. The boat deforms under you in a way a Chelan 120 at 3 psi over a 6 psi drop-stitch floor simply does not.
Who this is for
Someone whose problem is getting a boat to the water rather than paddling it once they arrive. Twenty-seven linear inches is inside most carriers' carry-on allowance, not merely their checked-bag limit, and 7 lb in a rucksack is a non-event on a long walk.
If your trip is: fly somewhere, hike in, float out -- this is close to the only thing in the recreational kayak category that works. It is competing with packrafts, not with kayaks, and it holds its own there.
Who should skip it
First-time buyers, anybody paddling on open or windy water, and anybody fishing. At 2 psi there is not much boat under you, and 250 lb of capacity is the lowest figure in this registry -- a 200 lb paddler with 30 lb of kit is at 92 percent of rating before anything else.
It is the boat we tell people to buy second, once they know why they want it.
What Advanced Elements does not publish
A warranty term, a denier or thickness figure for the fabric, and a chamber volume. The last of those means we cannot compute an inflation time for it, which is true of every kayak in this registry -- for reasons set out here. At 2 psi it will be quick regardless.

Questions people actually ask
Is the Advanced Elements PackLite good for beginners?
Can you take the PackLite as carry-on luggage?
How much weight can the PackLite carry?
Everyone in this category says they tested twenty boats. We have not tested any, and we say so. What we did instead: pulled the published specifications and the owner's manuals, computed the pump load and the packed volume for every model that publishes enough to compute them, checked the packed sizes against the airline limits you will actually meet, and cited every page we read. The full method.
