What our content is

Everything on this site is research and opinion. Specifically: published manufacturer specifications compiled and cited, arithmetic performed on those specifications with the working shown, and judgments about who a product suits.

It is not a report of first-hand use. We have not paddled, pumped, packed or otherwise used any of the products described here, and every page that ranks anything says so. The method is documented in full.

Accuracy, and its limits

We take accuracy seriously: every specification is cited to a manufacturer source with the date it was read, and every computed figure prints its inputs. We still cannot guarantee that everything here is correct or current.

Specifically, be aware that:

• Manufacturers change specifications between model years, often without changing the product name. A figure correct on the date shown may not be correct today.
• Computed figures are planning estimates derived from published inputs under a stated model with stated simplifications. They are not measurements.
• Prices change constantly. Whatever the retailer shows at checkout is the price.

Verify anything that matters against the manufacturer's current specification before you buy or rely on it -- particularly weight and dimension figures you are planning travel around.

Safety

Paddling carries real risk, including drowning. Nothing on this site is safety instruction, and reading it is not a substitute for proper training, a correctly fitted personal flotation device, checking conditions, and telling somebody where you are going.

Follow the manufacturer's own manual for the product you own -- particularly on working pressure and weight capacity. Where our figures and a manufacturer's manual disagree, the manual is authoritative and we would like to hear about the discrepancy.

We are not a party to any transaction between you and a retailer; any purchase is governed entirely by that retailer's terms, and returns, warranty claims and delivery problems are matters for them.

The text, tables, computed figures and page structure on this site are our work and are protected by copyright. You are welcome to quote short passages or cite a figure with attribution and a link. Wholesale reproduction is not permitted.

Product names, brand names and trademarks belong to their respective owners and are used here for identification only. Their use does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by those brands. Photography on this site is licensed stock, used illustratively; it does not depict specific products or specific outings.

Limitation of liability

This site is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Slate Mill Group is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from reliance on its content -- including any purchase decision made on the basis of information published here.
