These are the two tandems people reach for when the cheapest Intex is not quite enough boat, and they are the last pairing in our four-tandem set we had not put head to head. They are 21.14 lb apart, and the lighter one is rated to carry more.
That single fact is the page. Everything else follows from asking where the extra weight went, because it did not go into load.

Where twenty-one pounds went
Not into capacity -- the heavier boat is rated 50 lb lower. It went into two places, and both are legitimate.
The first is skin. Intex describes a three-ply PVC vinyl laminate with a woven polyester core, and the core is the part that matters: it stops a puncture propagating into a tear, which is the failure that ends a day rather than delays it. It is the most substantial construction anybody in this registry describes and it is why the Excursion Pro is our first pick for fishing.
The second is length. Twelve feet seven inches against 10 ft is 31 inches of extra hull, and it shows up as 4.19 : 1 against 3.43 : 1 on length-to-beam -- a longer, narrower hull holds a line better once you are away from the bank.
Where the Voyager 2 wins outright
Three columns, and the third is the one buyers underrate.
Capacity. Four hundred and fifty pounds is 300 lb at our two-thirds working load, against 267 lb. Two 180 lb adults are 360 lb before gear, so neither boat carries two large adults comfortably -- but the Voyager is the closer of the two, and it does it on less hull.
Carry and storage. Twenty-seven pounds in a 50-linear-inch bag against 48.14 lb in a bag whose size is not published. That is the difference between a boat one person moves and a boat that needs planning.
Disclosure. Driftsun publishes a working pressure, a floor pressure, a chamber count and a packed size. Intex publishes none of the four. For a boat you store in a cupboard and put in a car, the packed size alone decides whether the purchase works, and the pack-size guide explains why an unpublished figure is worse than a large one.
Where you can buy them right now
Worth being direct about, because it differs. The Excursion Pro K2 has a live Amazon offer, so its buy button goes to the listing with the current price. The Voyager 2 has no Amazon buy-box offer at the moment, so its button is a tagged Amazon search -- we found it in stock at Target and Walmart on 21 September 2026, with Sherper's and DSC showing backordered.
That is a stock situation rather than a verdict on the boat, and it moves week to week. It is also a genuine friction for a buyer who wants to order today, which is worth weighing against a spec sheet that is otherwise better.
So which one
Buy the Voyager 2 if the boat has to be carried, stored in a flat, or taken anywhere. More capacity, less than two thirds of the weight, a bag you can measure, and a manufacturer that states its pressures.
Buy the Excursion Pro K2 if the boat lives in a car, fishing is the point, or you paddle enough open water that 31 inches of hull earns its keep. The skin is the best in this registry and the length is real. The tandem roundup covers both against the two boats that carry more.

The trade-off
Twenty-seven pounds and 450 lb of capacity in a 10 ft hull means two adults sit close and sit low. It is a lake and slow-river boat, not a touring one.

Which is better, the Driftsun Voyager 2 or the Intex Excursion Pro K2?+
For most buyers the Voyager 2: it carries 50 lb more, weighs 21.14 lb less, packs to a published 50 linear inches and states its pressure and chamber count. The Excursion Pro K2 wins on two specific things -- a genuinely tougher three-ply skin and 31 more inches of hull -- which make it the better boat for fishing and for open water, provided it lives in a car.
Why does the heavier kayak carry less?+
Because weight follows material and capacity follows displacement. The Excursion Pro spends its pounds on a three-ply PVC laminate over a polyester core; the Voyager 2 uses a lighter reinforced PVC and puts its volume into tube diameter. You are not buying more boat with the extra 21 lb, you are buying a tougher skin and more length.
Which tandem is better for fishing?+
The Intex Excursion Pro K2, and it is our first pick for fishing generally. Hooks and gravel near fabric is exactly the situation a woven polyester core is for -- the scrim stops a puncture spreading into a tear. The counter-argument is capacity: 400 lb is about 267 lb at a sensible working load, which is thin once you add an angler, a cooler and tackle.
Can either of these be checked as airline luggage?+
The Voyager 2 can on published figures: 50 linear inches and 27 lb clears both the 62-inch and 50 lb economy limits comfortably. The Excursion Pro cannot -- Intex publishes no packed dimensions at all, and at 48.14 lb the hull alone is within 2 lb of the weight limit before a bag, a pump or paddles.
