Most portable-kayak design is about the boat. The Quikpak K1's best idea is about everything else: the bag it lives in is a backpack, and the backpack unfolds into the seat. One object, two jobs, and no separate seat to lose.

At 18 lb it is the second lightest boat in this registry -- 14 lb heavier than the PackLite and 9 lb lighter than anything else -- and the carry is hands-free, which matters more than the raw weight on a walk in.

The packed shape is unusual

Thirty-one by 9.25 by 17.5 inches is 57.75 linear inches, comfortably inside the checked-bag limit. But look at the shape: it is narrow and tall rather than long and flat, because it is designed to be worn.

That works out to about 82 liters of bulk, which is slightly more than the Sea Eagle SE370's 77 despite the SE370 being a 12 ft 6 in three-person boat. Two bags at almost identical linear inches, one carrying twice the boat -- which is exactly why linear inches and cubic volume are different questions.

The number Sevylor will not give you

There is no published working pressure for this boat anywhere we could find, including on Coleman's own Sevylor pages. On a 21-gauge PVC hull, that is the specification that determines whether the boat tracks or folds, and the difference between right and wrong is a couple of tenths of a psi.

It means you inflate by feel, which is a meaningfully worse experience than inflating to a number, and it is the single reason this boat is not higher up our travel ranking. Sevylor also publishes no chamber count -- it says "multiple air chambers" -- and no warranty term.

Who this is for

One person who walks to the water. The backpack carry is genuinely better than dragging a duffel, 8 ft 7 in is enough hull to be a real kayak rather than a packraft, and 400 lb of capacity is generous for a single.

Who should skip it

Anybody who wants to know what pressure their boat runs at. And anybody carrying it a genuinely long way -- 18 lb is fine for a mile and a lot for ten, which is where the 4 lb PackLite starts to look like a different product rather than a lighter one.

Questions people actually ask

What pressure should the Sevylor Quikpak K1 be inflated to?
Sevylor does not publish one, which is a genuine gap. Follow whatever the manual that ships with your boat says; in its absence, inflate until the tubes are firm but still give slightly under a thumb, and stop -- over-inflation is what fails seams. We are not going to name a figure we cannot source.
Is the Quikpak K1 backpack comfortable to carry?
We have not carried one, so we cannot tell you. What we can tell you is what it is: an 18 lb load in a 31 x 9.25 x 17.5 inch pack that also serves as the boat's seat. Whether that is comfortable over distance is exactly the kind of question our method cannot answer, and we would rather say so than guess.
How much can the Quikpak K1 carry?
Sevylor publishes 400 lb, which is generous for a single-seat boat -- more than the Aquaglide Chelan 120's 300 and considerably more than the PackLite's 250. For one paddler and a day's gear there is plenty of margin.
